Lana Bella

ALCHEMY

A breath
breathes in
the fog
is a velvet sky
disintegrating into
a million
inchoate wrinkles,
pressing faint
against your fingers
traveling over
my famished red.
A ponderous
aching alchemy
befalls from
the worn ends
of this late spring,
gnawing
the blushful strides
of my small form
moving
into the vortex
of your hands
on my waist.

IS REALITY ON THE GROUND THAWING?

At times, much of what
you see you don’t mean to.
Like the sky slides into
slate as seagulls drift past,
or sewer water rises after
a heavy storm hastening
through all the debris and
echoes of an impossible
density. But, is reality on
the ground thawing, or up
the blue veering west, or
a predicted parameter
of virtues and scars and
despairs that you hold dear?

BERTHE DE JOUX
After The Poison Artist by Jonathan Moore

In this late hour, there are no stars.
Alone now, the balcony heralds
my deep hunger beneath an awning
of rolling fog where earth and sky
are the same.

My fingers coil the stem of a Pontarlier
glass filled with froth of sugary milky
white absinthe; lips nurse spices of
anise and wormwood, secrets gulped
down pharynx shuddering with chills.

A lost evening when a narrow space
distorts me quicker, a little darker,
more by way of what it conceals, than
how it shakes my heart’s cathedral
letting sadness off its long leash.
