The Blessing of the Guns by Sarah Nichols

When we pass into
the next world

there will be nothing
but ashes and crowns of

bullets. We washed

the guns in our own blood,
demanding a sign or

Christ himself

I come not to send peace
but a sword

a witness to how we
love them. We cradle them like

newly born animals. Like

children.

Note: The italicized phrase is from the Bible, Matthew 10:34, King James version
