Hey there little chestnut
with your knit hat
woodsmoke in your hair
phlegmy laugh
fast pulse
Barreling along and alone
brave, awake
your sister once said:
If I were a robber, I’d rob you first.
but you don’t care
Sometimes you cry so hard
that you plug up all the works
and then afterwards you sleep so well
Sometimes you run so scared
that your heart pumps to bursting
Sometimes you jump straight into the fire
and you sizzle & pop
steam rising
heart radiating
good enough to gobble up in one gulp
throat singing
