IT’S MUSICAL THEATRE TIME AT LAST.
If you know anything about me at all, it’s probably that I just love musical theatre. Belting out songs from Broadway and the West End is fun, but attempting a duet makes it even more so – especially if you don’t have a partner and have to find a way to get two parts out of one mouth simultaneously. This playlist is a collection of some of the best and most iconic duets from the world of musical theatre from around the last 50 years.
I’ve tried to avoid making all of them about heterosexual, romantic couples; there are lots of great duets on this theme, but there are also many duets between friends, co-workers and relatives that deserve just as much recognition. I’ve also included one of my favourite duets, Eponine’s Errand, at the end as a bonus track, because much as I love it, I’m unsure whether it qualifies as a song in its own right, being found on only one official soundtrack and acting as a bridge between two separate scenes.
MUSICAL THEATRE DUETS
Each of these duets should make sense without the context of knowing the plot well (except perhaps the bonus track), but I can highly recommend every one of the shows. If you watch only one of them, make it Next to Normal, in my opinion one of the most underrated musicals of the 21st century but widely available online.
