DR. SEUSS KNEW EVERYTHING BY CAROL HAMILTON

Dr. Seuss Knew Everything

and his Horton told all.

World in world in world,

we can listen in anywhere

we choose. Usually,

though, I am tuned

into my own frequency,

drowning out all voices

but my own.

On a map of the universe

there’s a big yellow pennant

pinned right in the middle saying,

“I am here!” in bold black letters,

the only message I notice.

Carol Hamilton has recent publications in Southwestern American Literature, Bluestem, Paper Street, Cold Mountain Review, Commonweal, Common Ground, Calliope, Louisiana Review, U. S.1 Worksheet, Birmingham Literary Arts, Sandy River Review, Broad River Review, Louisiana Literature, Turtle Island Quarterly, Haight-Ashbury Poetry Review, U.S.1Worksheet and others. She has published 17 books. She is a former Poet Laureate of Oklahoma and has been nominated seven times for a Pushcart Prize.
